I’m on the third day of this 14 day detox. The materials that came with the program said that the 3rd and 4th days are usually the hardest, and with how I’ve been feeling today, I can say that so far, that’s right!
I’ve had a headache and I’m just feeling kind of sluggish and worn down. Apparently, that means it’s working! I can’t remember the exact science behind it, but I think what is happening is:
1) Withdrawal. I tried to limit some things in my diet leading up to the detox, but my body is still going through withdrawal and that is never a good feeling.
2) Now, this is where my science isn’t exact, but from what I understand, this is about the point where toxins are starting to be let go throughout the body, but it’s happening at a faster rate than the body can get rid of the toxins through sweat, trips to the bathroom, etc. So the bad stuff is just kind of chilling, and that kinda makes you feel sick. Soon my body will catch up and flush the yucky stuff out!
3) On top of doing this detox diet, I’m also in competition prep, which means I’m eating at a caloric deficit. This takes some getting used to!
Pretty much all I can do about it right now is to keep drinking a ton of water and sweat!! I’m taking a rest day from lifting, but I am going to do some cardio later and hopefully I can make it to the sauna. Even though exercise is the last thing I feel like doing, I think I will actually feel better after I get it done, and the sauna is always nice!!
On the plus side, my weight has gone down some! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not doing this detox to lose weight. However, I am trying to lose a ton of body fat for competition, so seeing the numbers on the scale go down is really nice!
