I was going to wait to share this until next week’s Workout Wednesday post, but I’m so excited, I have to share it now!!!
As I’ve mentioned several times recently, I’ve been doing a ton of upper body work outs using dumbbells at our apartment’s fitness center. The biggest dumbbells there are 50 lbs. For a while, I’ve been able to bench press the 45 lbs dumbbells for a few reps. About a month ago I decided to go for the 50s just to see if I could do it. My husband was there so I had him hand them to me and spot me.
I couldn’t lift them.
I think I got maybe half way up and then had to stop.
“Oh well,” I thought, “I’ll try again later.”
So for the past month, I’ve had in my mind that I was going to try again, but I never did. Either I was too tired or sore or whatever by that point that I never tried.
Well, today was the day. I took a little extra pre-workout and I changed how I did my sets, so I was feeling good. I got the 50s, got into position, and…pushed!
I got 2 reps in!!
I barely made that second rep all the way up, but I did it!!
I’ve been spending so much time lately being bummed out by all the things I can’t do that I didn’t really notice I was getting stronger. It was an awesome feeling to finally be able to lift those 50s.
Could I have lifted them a couple weeks ago? Probably. But that doesn’t matter. What matters is today I know I can do it!
